Hi,
As many of you know, Ann had an operation on her foot in February and has been unable to dive this year. Her recovery is progressing and so we have decided to go and do some warm water diving. We have booked to go to Roots Camp in Egypt from the 29th October to the 5th November. I know it is short notice, but if anyone else in the club wants to join us, they will be welcome.
Roots is a small diver orientated centre about an hour and a half drive south of Hurgharda on the Red Sea. It specialises in shore diving, with a good house reef and daily trips out by jeep to other nearby sites. Diving on the house reef is unguided, and so ideally divers need to be at least Ocean Diver qualified and have 25 or more logged dives. The non-diving facilities are limited so I would not recommend it for non-diving partners. The accommodation is comfortable with en-suite, air conditioned rooms. We have been before and we enjoy it there. We think it is well run and friendly. Linda Marsh and David Patchett have already said they will join us.
Transfers, accommodation, soft all inclusive (unlimited soft drinks but alcohol not incuded) and 6 days diving on the house reef costs £844, single supplement £145. Currently the flight from Manchester is £676 plus hold luggage charge. Extras are any booze you consume and the cost of trips out to other dive sites by jeep.
This is peak season in the Red Sea (the sea is warm, 26 deg C or so and the air has cooled from the summer highs to the mid 20s) but Roots still have a few rooms available and have agreed to hold them for a few days.
If you are interested then contact me for more details, or talk to Ann, Linda or David P at club. I’ll need to let Roots know at the end of this week the rooms we need so they can release the rest.
