Greetings All – just a quick note to let you all know that we have a new club member, Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor, Paul Tarn. Please join me in welcoming Paul to the club. I’m sure many of you will meet him over the next few months and will have the opportunity to chat with him.
Paul joins us from Wombwell BSAC where he maintains an active role in managing club activities. His dual membership with Barnsley BSAC couldn’t happen at a better time for us and helps relieve pressure on current Instructor demand. Paul has provided a bit of information about his background which he is happy for me to share with members:
Paul started diving in 2003 and trained in UK in a dry suit – his first ever sea dive two weeks later was the Great Barrier reef! Not much different from Greenends Gully then…
Under his own admission, Paul is a diving obsessive. He enjoys teaching and is always happy to help others learn and develop. He is equally happy to learn from other divers. He has lots of experience with kit, regs, etc and is always willing to let members try out some different types of kit or offer advice about what works well in his experience. Paul is the first CCR (Rebreather) diver we’ve had in a while – if you ask him nicely then I’m sure he would be happy to demo his kit.
He has trained many divers over the years and enjoys introducing people to a sport which has changed his own life. Paul’s wife is also an Instructor but likes warm crystal clear waters where she films sharks, mantas, fish and stuff (not rust) – they have separate holidays!
Paul owns his own RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) which he uses for diving out of Bridlington. His real passionate however is wreck diving – he loves diving in a dry suit in the UK especially Scotland.
Paul’s log book is packed full of signature dives – Gozo, Sardinia, Barrier reef and Yongala, Malasia, Egypt (liveaboards wreck tours), Truk lagoon (twice and planning a trip in 2017), Turkey (Kas), Canary Islands, Scapa, Eyemouth, Dorothea, M2, East coast, Oban, Mull, Anglesey, Cumbria, and the usual quarries. He lists his three best dives as – M2, San Fransisco Mauru, and Rosalie Moller.
Paul also brings some additional BSAC qualifications to complement his Open Water Instructor badge:

I just hope he knows what he’s taking on!
