Linda, David P, Ann and I are planning to go to Egypt, 13th-20th September 2026 for 6 days shore diving. Having done some research we have decided to go to Roots again. Not the cheapest option, but it ticks all our boxes. See https://www.rootsredsea.com/
Roots is a small, diver orientated, resort outside El Quseir, a 90 minute drive from Hurgharda airport. There is a good house reef, plus they drive out to other shore dive locations each day. Boat excursions are also available. Suitable for divers of any qualification level, but 25 logged dives are required. Diving on the house reef is unguided, guides are provided on the “away” trips. Again, we are looking at corals and critters. There are no wrecks to dive on from these shore locations.
Daytime temperatures are likely to be in the low to mid 30s, hot but not the extremes of high summer. Sea temperature around 28 deg C. We tend to do 2-3 dives per day, up to an hour or so, as there is little reason to go deep.
Roots have a 7 night “soft all inclusive ” package, and it includes 3 meals per day, water and soft drinks (Coke, Fanta, Lilt etc). They are offering this, plus unlimited house reef diving and airport transfers for £835 sharing (usual price for others is £935) , staying in en-suite, air conditioned rooms. Single supplement is around £180-200. Extras will be any alcohol, and charges for any away trips. Also small charges for marine and tourist taxes.
Flights are booked for Trevor, Ann, Linda and David P with Easyjet, Sunday 13 September 2026 EZY2255 Manchester 15:05 depart, 22:45 arrive Hurgharda. Sunday 20 September EZY2256 depart Hurghards 23:45, arrive Manchester 03:45. Cost £535 each. Adding yourself to the trip will not be problem.
We have 23Kg hold allowance, and just a small cabin bag to put under the seat in front (45x36x20cm). A full size cabin bag as an add-on would be about £100 extra, but hopefully 23kg in the hold is enough.
Roots also have what they call “Eco Huts” with 4 beds, which are not air conditioned, and toilet/washing facilities are shared. They are offering these for £625 per person, but I would not recommend those in September.
